The Business Continuity Institute

the-business-continuity-institute-bciThe Business Continuity Institute (BCI) was established in 1994 to enable individual members to obtain guidance and support from fellow business continuity practitioners. The BCI currently has over 4000 members in 85+ countries.  I came across this website while searching for this book on Managing Risk and Resilience in the Supply Chain. What does the Business Continuity Institute actually do?

The BCI’s key objectives

  • To set, maintain and promote high standards for the ethical practice of BCM
  • To establish and promote high quality education and personal development for practitioners
  • To define the professional competencies expected of business continuity professionals
  • To provide an internationally recognised Certification scheme for business continuity practitioners
  • To initiate, develop, evaluate and communicate BCM thinking, standards and good practices
  • To influence policy makers, opinion formers and other stakeholders worldwide in BCM issues

To sign up or not?

I don’t consider my self a BCM professional. I’m mereley an academic who has a genuine interest in the subject. The membership fees, nonetheless, are quite reasonable, starting at $140 for affiliate membership without certification. Regardless of membership, there is still a plethora of information on the website, among which the Continuity magazine, containing articles and papers on current issues in business continuity management.
