4th SCRM Seminar Barcelona 2012

This is an event that should not be missed: The 4th supply chain risk managment seminar in Barcelona,  25th and 26th October 2012. This annual event has been featured on my blog since its first inception in 2009, and over the last 4 years, the seminar has provided many of the world’s leading organisations with a platform to find real “in-process” solutions to their specific Supply Chain Risk Management issues.

New format

This year they have reshaped the seminar to incorporate one full day dedicated to General Supply Chain Management issues and a second full day to Supply Chain Risk Management challenges. Will that make it an even greater success? I think so. It could be a sign that thye are running out of supply chain risk topic, but I chose to think that it’s a sign of greater integration of risk thinking into supply chain management thinking. That is perhaps also why they changed the name, it is the the Supply Chain and Supply Chain Risk Seminar.

Key Issues

Day 1 is devoted to Supply Chain Management, while Day 2 is devoted to Supply Chain Risk Management, albeit, looking at the program in more detail, Day 1 isn’t exactly void of any risk-related topics.

Supply Chain Management

  • Supply Chain Collaboration
  • Supply Chain Finance
  • Increasing Supply Chain Visibility and Flexibility
  • Demand-Driven Value Network
  • Reduce Supply Chain Complexity to improve SC Efficiency
  • How to manage supply chain complexity in today’s global volatility?
  • Delivering Sustainable Profitable Growth through the Supply Chain
  • Increase Upstream and Downstream Supply Chain Flexibility
  • Establishing Reliable Supply Chains
  • Measurement & Metrics & ROI

Supply Chain Risk Management

  • Loss Mitigation
  • Supplier Risk Assessment and Monitoring
  • Securing Global Supply Networks
  • New Models for Supply Chain Risk
  • Supply Chain Disruption: Japan´s Tsunami business case
  • The role of total cost analysis (design versus disruption) in effective supply chain risk strategies.
  • The role of supply chain risk management in global competitiveness
  • End-to-end Supply Chain Risk Management
  • Successful business case of SCRM implementation
  • Measurement & Metrics & ROI
As always, there is an impressive list of speakers, taken from a wide range of different industries.

The INSTR series is the premier gathering for the world’s leading researchers and professionals interested in transportation network reliability, to discuss both recent research and future directions in this increasingly important field of research. Retail SCM Summit 2011

China. Perhaps the biggest arena for future development in logistics and supply chain management? It could be, because China is a rising economic powerhouse and on its way to become the world’s second largest consumer market after the United States. This means that domestic supply chains will be as if not even more important to China than international supply chains. With the government putting high priority on boosting domestic consumption, Chinese retailers need to understand and be able to cater to the increasingly sophisticated Chinese consumer. This is the backdrop for the Retail Supply Chain Management Summit 2011, hosted by the Global Leaders Institute in Shanghai, China on December 6 & 7, 2011, with the support of Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and China Logistics Association (CLA).

3rd Supply Chain Risk Management Seminar 2011

Finally, here it is, the 3rd Supply Chain Risk Management Seminar 2011 to be held in Barcelona, Spain, 26-27th October this year. Ever since I first blogged about the very first seminar in 2008, I have eagerly awaited the annual conference announcements, so that I could promote it here on husdal.com. This year’s program is still in the making but some topics and speakers are already out. With Supply cost and performance risk as a result of deteriorating freight transportation infrastructure as one of the topics, a topic that is very close to my heart, it looks like a seminar I would really like to attend. But there are a lot more reasons for going to Barcelona this year than just that one topic.

Building the resilient supply chain

Supply chain risk seems to be on everyone’s agenda these days, with one event after the other competing for spotlight attention. The Building a Resilient Supply Chain Summit, in New Orleans, 9-10 December 2010, is up next. This event, so the conference website says, is the must-attend event for senior supply chain executives looking to evolve their supply strategies to better respond to ever changing risks, market conditions and global compliance requirements. Well said, but that is not the reason why yours truly is promoting the event. My reason for blogging about it is the simple fact that they have an impressive list of  related resources on the conference website: reports, articles, blogs (!), interviews and videos. Even if you’re not planning to attend the conference, then at least you should attend their website, which is full of valuable insights, some of which I will highlight in this post.

Supply Chain Risk Management Forum

Is your supply chain risk keeping you up at night? Maybe it’s time to learn how risk management can improve business performance? For that you may want to consider attending the Supply Chain Risk Management Forum in Toronto, Canada on March 29, 2011. The conference is a follow-up on last year’s successful Strategic Supply Chain Management Forum, and in response to the positive feedback and suggestions of attendees and sponsors, this year’s one-day event is focused specifically on a current critical supply chain issue: supply chain risk.

CALL for Papers: NOFOMA 2011

NOFOMA is the network of Nordic researchers within the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and each year they host a conference on the latest research in logistics and supply chain management. NOFOMA 2011 will be hosted in Harstad, Norway, June 9-10, 2011.  It may be a bit early, but the deadline for paper submission is only some two months away. While supply chain risk issues are not mentioned as a particular topic in the call for papers, I am sure that logistics risks and related subjects will be covered nonetheless. I have many times considered submitting a paper, and maybe this time, since the conference is on home turf, I should really do it. So, what are the hot trends for logistics and supply chain management research in 2011?

CPM 2010 East in NYC

Behind this perhaps cryptic title (for some, but not for others, especially those in the BCM industry) is the Contingency Planning & Management Conference (CPM 2010 East) that is coming up November 3-4 in New York City. It offers a 2-day, 4-track advanced-level program taught by expert faculty in small, classroom settings.  Joseph Bruno, Commissioner of the NYC Office of Emergency Management, will also be this year’s keynote speaker. I won’t be going there myself, but if you’ve never attended before and are interested in attending, through my contacts I am pleased to offer a special registration code that will save you $100 off the full conference rate.

MITIP 2011 in Trondheim, Norway

This conference is a bit on the sideline for the topic of this blog, but since I have promoted it both in 2009 and in 2010, and since I was on the scientific committee for both conferences, I think I should do so for 2011 also, particularly because it takes place on home turf. The 13th International Conference on The Modern Information Technology in the Innovation Processes of the Industrial Enterprises, or MITIP 2011 for short, will take place 22 June – 24 June 2011, in Trondheim, Norway. The main theme of this conference will be ICT enabled intelligent manufacturing and supply chains.

ISCRiM 2010 Proceedings

Two weeks ago I attended the ISCRiM 2010 seminar at Loughborough University, a gathering of some of the finest researchers in supply chain risk. Here I had the chance to meet and talk to the people I so far have only blogged about, and it was a very inspiring two days in Loughborough. In order to disseminate the research that was presented at the seminar to a wider audience I have decided to publish the proceedings on my blog so that other researchers, academics and practioners can keep abreast of the latest in supply chain risk research.

2nd Supply Chain Risk Management Seminar

Do you remember the 1st Supply Chain Risk Management Seminar Barcelona 2009? I made a post about it a year ago. The sequel is scheduled to take place this year, on October 2oth and 21st, as before, in Barcelona, Spain. This seminar provides a unique opportunity to discuss the most pressing issues today through a series of case studies, informative presentations, workshops and interactive panel discussions and is maybe the place for professionals in supply chain risk to meet and share experiences with other experts. This year’s programme looks even better than last year.

MITIP 2010 – Call for Papers

For several years, when it comes to ICT-driven innovation and production, the MITIP conferences have proven to be an important forum for researchers from academia and industry to present the results of their work, and to inspire a creative dialogue between the industry and the academic world. Having presented MITIP 2009 on this blog previously, time has now come for MITIP 2010, the 12th International Conference on The Modern Information Technology in the Innovation Processes of the Industrial Enterprises. This time the conference is much closer to home (for me), at Aalborg University in Aalborg, Denmark, 30-31 August 2010. And being on the scientific committee for this conference it is my pleasure to circulate this call for papers within my network, and what better way is there than to do it on my blog?

I have attended INSTR2004 and INSTR2007 and I’m certainly looking forward to INSTR2010.

The 2009 Nordic Business Continuity Symposium

I guess this will be THE gathering of who’s who in the Nordic Business Continuity commuity, and I wish I could be there, listen to the speakers, exchange ideas and simply, be inspired. The 2009 Nordic Business Continuity Symposium. And it’s right at my doorstep, well almost, at least it’s in my home country. The third Nordic Business Continuity Symposium to be held in Oslo, Norway on the 23rd April 2009 at Telenor Fornebu, Expo Building. For those of you who remember some history, Fornebu used to be Oslo’s main airport until 1998, almost in the middle of the city, when they moved it to Gardermoen, some 40km north of Oslo. Progess…

MITIP2009 – a conference worth considering

The purpose of the Modern Information Technology in the Innovation Processes of the Industrial Enterprises conference is  to serve as a forum for the dissemination of ideas, knowledge and experiences about the ICT-driven innovation in industrial products, processes and services. The conference is targeted to scholars and practitioners involved in research activities focusing on the role of ICT in modern industrial enterprises, and it particularly focuses on the exchange of ideas between Eastern and Western Europe. Having recently been asked by Roberto Pinto, who also runs riskcentral.org,  to join the scientific committee for the conference, I feel obliged to advertise this conference. This year’s conference is the 11th conference and runs from 15 to 16 October 2009 in Bergamo, Italy.
